Compassion in World Farming is the leading international farm animal welfare charity, campaigning to improve the lives of millions of farm animals through advocacy, lobbying for legislative change, and positive engagement with the global food industry.
The goal of our established Food Business team is to place farm animal welfare at the heart of the food industry, and in doing so we are recognised as the credible partner on animal welfare standards and policies, to the major food retailers, food service companies and manufacturers.
Position: European Food Business Manager Location: Godalming, Surrey Contract type: Full Time, Maternity Cover 12 Months Salary: circa £30,000 to £35,000 (dependent on experience)

About the Role:
The European Food Business Manager will have a consultancy approach to partnership negotiations for leading food service organisations and will maintain existing relationships, and establish new ones, within target food companies relating to their food supply chain standards and animal welfare policies, utilising market leading toolkit. You will promote animal welfare as a key component of Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility with targeted stakeholders.
You will progress Compassions impact target through Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards and corporate pledges and manage and co-ordinate multiple projects and ensure delivery on time and to budget. You will also monitor trends and developments in the food service sector relating to ethical food supply chain issues, consumer preferences, labelling and information. You will work with the Food Business Team's Marketing Communications Manager to promote award winners, corporate pledges and best-case examples in the food service sector.
Additionally, you will work with other members of the Food Business team to deliver effective events for the food industry and develop and maintain good working relationships with all members of staff, including Supporter Engagement and Campaigns teams.
The right Candidate will be an experienced business development / account manager who will be responsible for maintaining and developing partnerships with leading food companies. In particular, targeting the top Global food service companies, in order to deliver higher farm animal welfare standards throughout their supply chains. The right Candidate will have a track record of building strong commercial relationships and be approachable, adaptable and have a positive disposition that inspires confidence.
They will have account management experience and be an excellent communicator, ideally with experience in partnership development and/or marketing in order to provide a compelling case to engage with food companies. They will promote the value of, and business case for, improved farm animal welfare policies and practices and promote support for key campaigns and programmes throughout the Europe. A track record of managing a Sustainability/Corporate Responsibility programme within the retail and/or food and/or ethical supply chain sector or a strong track record of managing NGO programmes and campaigns to commercial organisations, would be an advantage.
They will be able to bring a commercial perspective to welfare issues, and a solid understanding of the issues, practices and strategy in sustainability and/or animal welfare within the food supply chain. They will be realistic but ambitious about what is achievable with companies. They will be a driven self-starter, who can work on their own as well as in a team.
