Solent Mind is the largest third sector provider of mental health services in the Hampshire region offering a range of high quality services to improve people’s mental wellbeing and to promote choice and rights to everyone who needs our support. Mayfield Nurseries is a subsidiary social enterprise of Solent Mind and is a plant nursery with a difference.  We provide a place for people with mental health issues, learning disabilities and dementia to develop new skills to improve their wellbeing and be part of our supportive friendly business. We are currently recruiting for the role of Nursery Grower/Project worker; 37 hours per week - Mon - Fri 8.30am to 4.30pm (requires some weekend working on a rota basis) Based at Mayfield Nurseries, Southampton   We require a dynamic person to join our team at Mayfield Nurseries to take a lead role in: The ordering, growing and husbandry of our bedding and basket plants for sale to the general public. The ordering of gardening sundries for our small onsite shop. Providing sessions to our project members and volunteers at Mayfield Nurseries on Fire Safety procedures and manual handling, for which further training will be given. You will be a team player encouraging and mentoring our project members with mental health issues and learning difficulties to learn transferrable skills in horticulture through your own horticultural experience. You must be flexible, organised and have the experience and skills necessary to facilitate work and project member and volunteer input at our busy Nursery based in Weston Lane Southampton. Experience of growing bedding and basket plants in a retail or wholesale nursery is essential as is the ability to engage and motivate vulnerable people.
