Visitor Experience Manager

£25,935 per annum

United Kingdom

Imagine being the Visitor Experience Manger for a beautiful wildlife sanctuary, one with a lakeside nature reserve at its heart and peacocks a plenty. Sound like paradise? That’s only the half of it…

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.

What it's like to work here

On the edge of Exmoor and a short distance to the coast, Arlington Court is one of Britain’s well-kept secrets. With stunning views over the Yeo valley, this 2,700 acre estate with a homely house at its heart stuffed with the eclectic collections of the last owner, Rosalie Chichester.

The stables house a large collection of carriages, one of the best in the country. The garden offers flowers, vegetables and an extensive park which is a designated SSSI that runs on into the stunning Devon countryside.

With Red deer, peacocks, bats and Shetland ponies, Arlington offers its staff and visitors a truly magical place to be a part of.

What you'll be doing

As Arlington’s Visitor Experience Manager, you’ll be responsible for helping to set the strategic direction of visitor engagement at the property and continually work towards improving the experience so people connect emotionally to our places and what we stand for.

You’ll be responsible for monitoring and achieving stretching targets whilst operating tight budget control and putting conservation at the heart of everything you do. Care and conservation is central to the Trust, and you will build on opportunities to connect visitor experiences with conservation across our property and enhance our spirit of place.

Arlington has an established programme of activities delivering to different audiences throughout the year, but you’ll constantly seek new opportunities to expand and develop the property offer for our visitors and members, working towards ambitious targets for growth, enhanced visitor experience and raising the profile of our special place. In an area where visitors peak in the summer months and the local population is small you will be asked to think creatively to encourage repeat local visits in the shoulder months as well as building on our Christmas/winter offer and refreshing elements of our events programme.

This role is a very people focused position, and as well as managing the visitor experience team (staff and volunteers) to ensure a culture of exceptional service is championed, where each visitor experiences a consistent quality and warm welcome, you’ll work collaboratively with all property teams to ensure an enticing visitor experience programme promotes the work of the property in all areas and is promotes through conventional and digital media channels.

Who we're looking for

  • Inspiring and great with people
  • Enjoy working with and supervising a team and unafraid to give direction and feedback
