The Chief Scientist is the overall strategic lead on all science research undertaken by Forest Research (FR) and is responsible for providing strong scientific leadership and independent challenge to the scope, content and quality of the Forestry Commission’s (FC) scientific activities, including its investment plans for science, its programmes and specialist resources.
The key responsibilities for the role will include:
The post-holder will be a key member of the Forest Research Executive Board with shared accountability for our corporate strategy and activities whilst taking lead responsibility for science across the Agency. The post-holder will play a pro-active part in future direction and leadership of the Agency, ensuring the Agency has skilled, science professionals that it needs with an eye to the future. The post-holder will be required to foster talent, embrace strong leadership, inspire others about our future and our work, be confident in our engagement with our stakeholders and empower our staff to deliver. The post holder will also act as the formal Head of Profession for Science and Technology specialists working in the FC and FR and play a full and active role in the continued professional development of the FR science staff.
