Senior Shift Production Manager

£48000 - £50000/annum

Purpose of Job

• To manage the day to day production activity within the operating environment (Process, Filling and Packing). Responsible for the daily performance and adherence to plan, these responsibilities also includes quality, productivity, efficiency, OEE &service whilst maintaining the highest standards of health & safety, environmental and food safety.
• To support the operations manager and KSLT in all activities relating to production
• To manage and drive team development and compliance across the whole operations department. As the site moves further into growth and investment, reinvigorating and restating the site culture and ensuring necessary behaviors are demonstrated at all levels in the business.
• The job holder has direct responsibility for the operations staff within the Process, Packing & Filling areas over a 24/7 operation, also takes direct responsibility for full site operations out of office hours through.
• The role has responsibility for ensuring that the right skills and capability are positioned into the correct operative roles and that the appropriate levels of training and development is provided.
• The role will be expected to demonstrate the correct behaviors to drive day-to-day performance whilst developing Employee Engagement and Continual Improvement.
• To support all site based and company based initiatives and in particular to support the Continuous Improvement agenda on the site.

Nature & Scope of the Job

• Deliver cost effectively the production plan in accordance with the required standards in particular product quality and health and safety.
• Act as a link for people, production or line issues bringing to the attention of the Operations Manager any significant matters or those that remain unresolved.
• Actively support a continuous improvement approach to all shift operations
• To drive all operational KPI’s and to be responsible for identifying the root cause of poor performance, determining and actioning solutions
• Work together with the engineering department to resolve issues and optimise production.
• To work in close partnership with other managers (i.e Maintenance, Hygiene) to ensure an aligned Manufacturing strategy implementation.
• To act as a role model for Employee Engagement, driving Continual Improvement through personal passion.
• To maintain and develop systems to ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards, driving an improving culture of Health & Safety and employee driven dynamic risk assessment and management.
• To maintain and develop systems to ensure compliance with Food Safety and Quality standards, driving an improving culture of Quality improvement through engaged team members.
• To lead the continual development of team members, enhancing productivity through standard setting, training, communication and strong leadership.
• To help develop and maintain suitable Lean Manufacturing tools that drive proactive and corrective actions at an appropriate level by use of escalation and information cascading in order to meet established KPI targets.
• To be responsible for ensuring that the defined start up and shut down procedures are followed and recorded.
• To ensure that all SSOW are adhered to and understood by all teams.
• Assist in developing effective production teams through training, the My Review process, coordinating shift hand-overs and managing performance
• To manage the production area teams in accordance with the dairy crest procedures and policies

Knowledge & Experience Required

• At least 5 years’ experience within a blue chip food manufacturing / FMCG company.
• A consummate professional with a passion for world-class manufacturing, you will be able to demonstrate significant success in improving business performance through a structured and systematic approach to manufacturing management.
• Able to work in a calm, controlled and effective manner in a fast moving production environment you will provide stability and guidance to the operations team and your peer group. A natural manager and leader you will demonstrate exceptional coaching and influencing skills and the ability to motivate your team to deliver outstanding results.
• Highly motivated by the challenge of Continuous Improvement you will possess the knowledge of up to date tools and techniques required to lead a program of Lean Manufacturing and loss reduction.
• Experience or understanding of FMCG liquid / high speed food packaging operations would be an advantage but not essential.
• A real team player with experience at management level you will display the competencies required to be an effective Management Team member and have the confidence to take a lead role in the site culture change program.
• A natural communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. You will have the ability to inspire and deliver through other people.
• Ability to demonstrate good knowledge of equipment and systems operation, including Harford, metal detectors, Labelers’ etc.
• Demonstrate excellent team working and motivational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
• Experience in interpreting data to provide status report on team activities against plan /schedule to inform future decisions.
• Knowledge of Food Quality Management Systems, Health & Safety and Food Hygiene systems
