How to make better worm control choices in cattle this year

  • Date: 10th March at 7.30pm

Reducing reliance on wormers, to reduce selection for resistance should be a focus for all cattle farmers, and putting an integrated control strategy in place at the start of the grazing season provides the best foundation for this. But why is it so important that we take this approach now, and what monitoring and treatment strategies can we implement to achieve this objective whilst maintaining health and performance?

Join Farmers Guardian journalist Katie Jones as she opens the discussion. with Professor Eric Morgan, Institute for Global Food Security at Queen’s University, Belfast.

They will be talking about:

  • The drivers for change – why do we need to consider the sustainability of cattle worm control?
  • The risk factors for worm infection and how we can use this information to inform control strategies and implement selective treatment strategies
  • Practical changes can you make to reduce reliance on wormer treatments on your farm, without compromising health and productivity
  • Practical good practice tips to consider when administering wormer treatments.

Get your free ticket now! – Pasture management for better worm control in cattle

Date: 7th July at 7.30pm

Do you know that up to 80% of the worm population on your farm is on the pasture?

Join this virtual webinar to take part in a discussion to help you learn and understand the role that pasture contamination plays in parasite control. Find out how you can practically implement an integrated control strategy which can reduce reliance on wormers and minimise selection for resistance. In this webinar, vet and 2021 Nuffield scholar Rob Howe will describe his approach and lead a discussion on this topic.

Get your free ticket now! – Autumn Fluke Control: best practice in an evolving landscape

Date: 22nd September at 7.30pm

The threat that liver fluke poses to the health and productivity of cattle is increasingly well characterised. However, managing this risk relies on a clear understanding of the threat posed by this parasite at farm level.

In this webinar we’re joined by Professor Diana Williams, a veterinary parasitologist with interests in the immunology, pathogenesis and epidemiology of parasites affecting livestock. Currently Diana heads a large research programme which aims to improve control of Fasciola hepatica (fluke) in sheep and cattle.

We will discuss:
  • How we can better characterise the risk at farm level
  • The emerging challenges that complicate this picture
  • How we can use a risk based approach to control liver fluke at housing
