Francesca Beswick might have grown up on a farm but wasn’t necessarily next in line to take the business on. Here she tells us why she quit her job to go back to the family business and has found that being a woman in farming doesn’t actually matter.
Ben McClymont, 21, is currently studying agriculture at Scotland’s Rural College, Edinburgh, where he is about to start his BSc (Hons) year after summer. He lives on a 283-hectare (700-acre) 500-cow dairy farm and outside of university is a full-time contractor for local farmers, chairman of Lower Nithsdale YFC and Dumfries and Galloway Agri Rural Affairs rep.
With little activity taking place on-farm, bar loading the last lot of beans and oats along with taking delivery of spring seed, it has been a good opportunity to attend as many meetings and conferences as possible.
