Sam Hall, 21, works on his family’s mixed farm in Croxden, Uttoxeter. They milk 50 Friesian cross Holstein cows and have 150 ewes, with a further 50 which belong to Sam and his girlfriend. Sam runs his own egg selling enterprise on the side, with 1,500 laying birds.
Poultry: My plan this week was to make some straw, but the weather put that, and indeed the start of harvest, on hold.

Rachael, 32, and her husband, Geraint, farm 486 hectares (1,200 acres) in Bala, Gwynedd their two young daughters. They keep 1,000 breeding ewes with 200 replacements and 30 suckler cows. Rachael also works part-time as a senior manager for the Rhug Estate.

Charlie Coe farms 52 hectares (130 acres) in partnership with his farther David at Great Wenham, Suffolk. They run a suckler herd of pedigree Longhorns and Northern Dairy Shorthorns as well as a small flock of sheep made up of pedigree Jacobs, Wensleydales and Whitefaced Dartmoors. Home-grown cereals are fed in the beef finishing yards to locally-sourced stores. He is a Harper Adams graduate and founder member of Hadleigh YFC.
Tom Stable farms with his wife Anna and parents Mike and Denise in Ulverston, Cumbria. They milk the 250 strong Bolton Manor herd of pedigree Holsteins on 200ha (494 acres) and have just opened ’Cumbrian Cow’ Ice Cream.
Chris Waters works on the family dairy farm, milking 110 pedigree Holstein cows across 121.4 hectares (300 acres) of owned and rented land in Newport, Monmothshire.
As well as looking after the family’s herd, he also has his own personal herd of pedigree Holstein cattle under the prefix ChrisCross and a pedigree Simmental herd under the prefix GoldCross.
