Brexit Prep Tip Of The Week

Keep on top of your tax affairs whatever the Brexit outcome

The introduction of Making Tax Digital brings an entirely new way of processing VAT returns and is obligatory for any business with a taxable turnover above £85,000.

However, this is the perfect opportunity to review your business processes to ensure your transactions are compliant and efficient.

Transitioning to the new system will be far easier with your paperwork in order and saved in the correct digital format.

You’ll have to use approved an approved accounting software package or if you’re happier using spreadsheets, excel bridging software.

Your accountant should be able to advise if you’re unsure. For those who don’t have internet access you may be eligible for MTD exemption. Ring HMRC to find out more (0300 200 3700).

The first return under the new system is due at peak harvest time in August, so please take this into consideration in your planning.

CLA chief taxation adviser, Louise Speke
