Gardening Instructor

£16,005.60 per annum

West Midlands, United Kingdom

The aim of this post is to care for a group of Project Workers (with Learning Disabilities) whilst securing gardening income for the charity. You will provide a stimulating, friendly, safe, and nurturing environment for our Project Workers, using their skills to assist you in paid gardening work out in the local community. This post could be ideal for a gardener who wants to use their skillset whilst developing others. The post may also appeal to an experienced gardener who would like a change in focus as they head towards retirement, or a person in the early stage of their career who wants to apply their skills within a caring environment. Newlands Bishop Farm develops our Project Workers, giving them life skills within a wider educational remit. It is important the post holder places the Project Worker at the heart of all that they do, and can demonstrate they genuinely possess a passion for improving the lives with those who have learning disabilities.

Duties

·Carry out gardening work for private clients, assisted by a group of Project Workers.

·Provide a stimulating, friendly, safe and nurturing environment for our Project Workers.

·Supervise Project Workers in the safe use of gardening equipment, or any other applicable machinery including the use of personal protective equipment at all times.

·Keep the company gardening vehicles in reasonable cleanliness / condition.

·Fill in the appropriate paperwork for risk assessments, accidents and any other administrative task requested by the Senior Learning Disabilities Manager.

·Attend team meetings in the morning to discuss individual Project Worker needs.

·Assist the Community Gardening Services business unit in Chelmsley Wood occassionally when they are short staffed.

·Other duties requested by the Senior Learning Disabilities Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

Prior gardening experience is a necessity, and picture evidence of work carried out will be encouraged to prompt discussion at the interview stage. Previous care experience is not a necessity, but you will be required to recall examples where you have helped vulnerable people in the past. A full driving licence is a mandatory requirement, as is a willingness to obtain a trailer licence at the charity's expense if you do not already hold one.

Location: Newlands Bishop Farm, Berry Hall Lane, Catherine De Barnes, B91 2RY.

Interviews to be held: End of June 2018 / early July 2018.
