Specialist Engineer (Fuel Economy)

Our prestigious Automotive client based in Gaydon, Warwickshire is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Engineer (Fuel Economy) to work within our Clients ever expanding Powertrain department on a full time basis.

Stringent future legislative requirements surrounding fuel economy, CO2 emissions and BEVefficiency present a significant strategic challenge but also provide exciting opportunities for engineers within Product Engineering. Through technical interaction with relevant engineering teams, this role will drive a a product efficiency mindset into the business and support activities specifically aimed at reducing our products energy consumption, thus reducing the CO2 footprint of our client's fleet and increasing the efficiency and driving range of our electrified vehicles.

This is a brilliant opportunity for the chosen candidate to work in a very modern and luxurious working environment. The successful Specialist Engineer (Fuel Economy) will be working a 40 hour week with access to onsite parking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance to relevant engineering teams (Commodity Groups) in respect of vehicle and system-level energy consumption assessment, via both CAE & physical test
  • Support Commodity Groups in the development of clear plans to reduce energy consumption
  • Assist with the maintenance of a cross-functional portfolio of CO2 / energy-reducing technologies, helping to validate that the aggregate impact meets future business needs

Key Skills Required for Submission:

  • Strong technical awareness with the ability to recognise and quantify energy-consuming vehicle systems and attributes, including sensitivity to different vehicle duty cycles
  • Proven analytical skills, capable of effectively managing, interpreting and presenting technical data.
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to establish and maintain highly-effective cross-functional working relationships

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of fuel economy / energy reduction principles and technologies

Experience Required:

  • Experience of Powertrain or vehicle system technical delivery within either an OEM or Tier 1 supplier

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience of technical delivery in two or more of the following fields: ICE or electrified vehicle propulsion systems; vehicle-level attributes; non-propulsive vehicle system design / development; automotive environmental legislation

Education Required:

  • First degree in Engineering, Physics or related technical subject

Education Preferred:

  • Second degree or Doctorate in Engineering, Physics or related technical subject, with a relevant major academic project

Additional Information:

  • Although the role is based at Gaydon, it is expected that occasional working at Whitley will be necessary
