Test Development Engineer

From £30 to £36 per hour

Staffordshire, United Kingdom

12 Month Contract

If you have a good practical mechanical engineering background and have an interest in agricultural equipment or construction machinery and enjoy problem solving and fixing problems, then this could be a good opportunity for you. This company designs and manufactures agricultural machinery and construction vehicles and requires several contract engineers to join the test and development team.

As a test development engineer, you will aid the design process by helping test, evaluate and assess new design features for new and existing vehicles and machines. This may involve driving and using equipment, setting up hydraulic and other test rigs and performing tests, and perhaps using your practical engineering skills to develop prototypes and design solutions.

If you can find a way to make a square peg sit in a round hole, then that’s a good start!

Skills / Knowledge required:

•HND / Degree in mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering or automotive engineering

•Excellent problem solving skills with a natural practical mechanical aptitude (you will get your hands dirty onsite and in the “field”)

•Direct experience of construction vehicles, agricultural machinery, rolling stock, automotive or similar (ability to drive these vehicles would be an advantage)

•Good experience of mechanical test (e.g. how to set up tests, perform tests, collate results and interpret them)

•Understanding of testing of cooling systems, drivetrain, powertrain, squeak, NVH, transmissions and full vehicles would be a distinct advantage

•Fully computer literate (MS Office, including Excel etc)

•Good communications skills (written and verbal) along with a flexible attitude and keen interest in seeing projects through to completion

Others: (beneficial)

•Any experience of mechanical design using 3D CAD may be useful

•Any understanding of electrical engineering, wiring, or installation may be useful

•Understanding of manufacturing and production engineering processes

Commutable from Stoke on Trent, Cheadle, Derby, Uttoxeter, Stafford, and Burton upon Trent
