Dairy farmer, Charlotte has recently moved to a farm called Laitha in Bolton, Appleby, and now farms around 81 hectares (200 acres).
Charlotte says: “We were running out of land and buildings so expansion was the most practical thing to do, we had 16ha (40 acres) next to the farm we have bought and feel a great sense of achievement in adding to what was a superb farm already. We are currently farming 135 head of cattle, including my new dairy cross calf operation as an extra stream of income, and keeping the heifers we would have normally sold by now due to space issues longer which is really rewarding as we haven’t been able to watch them mature before. It’s uplifting to see what big beautiful animals they make.
“We have adopted the resident farm dog Ben who has taught us a lot. If you ever think you’re a person of some influence, try ordering someone else’s dog around!
“Roy is still working at the family garage full-time and me part-time and we are finding there isn’t enough hours in a day but we wouldn’t change it for the world! We have been given a brilliant opportunity and intend to make the most of it”
