JOB TITLE: Countryman / Farm Estate Maintenance Person

THE ESTATE: Newbottle is situated in South Northamptonshire and covers about 1500 acres. The farm is a mixed farm of arable and Aberdeen Angus cattle. They are currently looking for a Countryman / Farm Estate Maintenance Person to join them.

THE ROLE: We are looking for a general estate worker with a wide range of handyman and estate skills to join the team as a Countryman / Farm Estate Maintenance Person . This is a very varied role on a traditional Estate in South Northamptonshire , close to Banbury.

Estate duties

  • Forestry and woodland work e.g. chain sawing to making charcoal etc
  • Traditional Cut and laid hedging
  • Traditional Dry-Stone walling
  • General carpentry work and metal fabrication • Landscaping works including in some of the grounds/gardens on the Estate
  • Repairing and maintaining lakes and streams
  • Game keeper – rearing 750 pheasants
  • Work on environmental schemes e.g. establishing nectar flowering mixes etc
  • Digger work
  • Repairing and maintaining buildings

Farm duties Relief Livestock work You would work as a relief stockman to cover holiday, sickness and 1/3 weekends. You would be trained to carry out this work but we expect someone who cares about animals and is reliable. You would be responsible for:

  • Relief feeding and bedding
  • Relief checking stock both when housed and at grazing
  • Relief stock work e.g. handling cattle or assisting in stock tasks Relief Arable Duties
  • Harvest – working in the team to carry out relief corn carting or bale carting
  • Relief loading and unloading lorries
  • General farm maintenance
  • Fencing
  • Gates
  • Laying concrete or hardcore
  • General maintenance e.g. trough repair, building repairs

THE CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate for the Countryman / Farm estate maintenance person will have a hands on approach to work and have experience of tracker driving and the use of a chainsaw. You will be self motivated with a strong work ethic. You will need to have a good level of spoken English to communicate with colleagues within the Estate.

Key experience essential for the Countryman / Farm Estate Maintenance Person role:

  • Live within a commutable distance of Banbury
  • Experience of Tractor driving
  • Experience of operating a chainsaw
  • Spraying experience / Certificates desirable
  • Telehander driver desirable
  • Digger operator - desirable
