Farm/Estate Manager – South West

A rare opening has arisen for an experienced, dynamic Farm/Estate Manager who is seeking their next challenge. The Estate is a mixed enterprise comprising of livestock pasture, woodland with a small number of properties, privately owned and situated in stunning Somerset surroundings. This is a real opportunity for the right candidate to take on a well maintained, innovative Estate.

 

The Estate is set in 250 acres of historic parkland, producing quality livestock to organic standards. The enterprise is made up of 85 acres of pasture land grazing sheep, beef and pigs, with 165 acres of woodland. The successful candidate will be responsible for all animal related tasks and welfare, overseeing woodland management and the managing of staff to the highest standard. The ability to communicate effectively at all levels of contact from within and without the estate is essential, including the local community and third-party professionals.

 

Reporting to the Directors, the candidate will be reliable, trustworthy, conscientious and self-motivated. The importance of an eye for detail and visual impact of the Estate is also important due to other activities and planned events.

 

Requirements:

  • Practical UK farm management experience.
  • Ideally woodland experience.
  • People management – to lead and motivate 3 full time staff and numerous temporary.
  • The ability to engage with local community and wider industry to promote the business as a whole.
  • Capable of meeting targets, working to budgets and progressing the farm business using innovative methods.
  • The ability to keep all farm records e.g. Farm Assurance inspections and animal movements up to date and to provide reports to the owner.
  • Capable of maintaining the Estate to high standards.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Well organised, proactive and flexible.
  • Computer literate.

The Benefits Package; A competitive salary package will be offered to reflect the experience of the applicant. A 2 bedroom fully expensed lodge on the estate will be included, plus other benefits.
