The estate also owns a brewery, game shooting sites and a farm, though the new gardener will be based in the main estate gardens on a permanent basis. The 12-15 acre garden is predominantly laid to lawn, with large wildflower areas currently being developed. The garden comprises areas of woodland, formal lawns, clipped hedges, pleached trees and topiary, a rose garden, herbaceous and mixed borders, ponds and streams, a swimming pool and a small greenhouse and nursery area. Training will be provided for passionate gardeners to improve their existing skill set and knowledge, though applicants must have good plant knowledge, be physically fit, and must be able to operate a range of garden machinery competently. Routine responsibilities will include general garden maintenance, pruning, planting, turfing, hedge cutting and general seasonal horticultural duties. The candidate must be willing to commit to the role on a long term basis, have a good comprehension of the German language and be able to converse confidently. The new Experienced Gardener should be able to take charge of the garden and Under Gardeners at times when the Head Gardener is absent. Candidates should possess a driving licence and ideally, have experience of driving tractors and trailers. Assistance will be required with non-gardening tasks at times.
