An opportunity has arisen for a herdsperson to join a business with a milking herd of 300 Holstein.
The farm is 550 acres, 420 acres of grassland, 80 acres maize 50 acres of wheat which are fed back to the cows. Cows calve all year round and yielding 8500 litres, on two times daily milking. Total mixed ration feeding is practiced, with feeding in parlour. Milking is through a 20:20 herringbone milking parlour with ACR’s, and auto segregation. Milking cows are cubicle housed with mattresses. Dry cows and pre-calver’s are in straw yards and youngstock in cubicles.
This herdsperson will be required to milk the cows, trim lame cows between visits from the hoof trimmer, and perform AI. This herdsperson will need be proactive with herd health including fertility, taking a lead with fresh cow management etc.
The right person will have a lot of experience working on dairy farms and be able to work alone as well as part of a team. You may be involved in all aspects of work on the farm and an ability to adapt as required is advantageous.
