We require an experienced herdsperson who is capable of running a herd of cows to a high standard on well-run family farm near Belper.

 

The herd comprises mainly Pedigree Holstein Friesian cows, run on an AYR calving system, housed in the winter and out in the day in the summer (in at nights). Milked twice a day the cows are achieving circa 9,000 litres with around 7-7.5% solids, current cell count is 120 and bactoscan 12. The heifers are served to sex semen and cows 2 x black and white and then put to the Saler bull. Beef calves are sold off farm, with all replacement heifers reared on site. Field work is carried out both in house and by external contractors.

 

A skilled and experience herdsman is required, who has had experience in a similar position in the past.

This role will involve using your own initiative and being self-motivated whilst you must have the ability to communicate proficiently and work as part of a team. Attention to detail, flexibility and enthusiasm are key qualities for this role.

 

Key responsibilities of the role will be; milking, TMR feeding, young stock and calves, vet routines and record keeping, staff management and designating tasks for the team, A.I and foot trimming experience is beneficial but not essential.
