The owner of 2 Sisters Food Group, Ranjit Boparan, is reportedly a front-runner to buy Europe’s biggest turkey producer Bernard Matthews.
Last week Farmers Guardian reported the firm had emailed staff saying the company’s owner had appointed Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) to look at possible buyers.
The company had also attracted interest from Faccenda, the UK’s second largest chicken processor, and Moy Park.
Mr Boparan entered the turkey market in April, buying Irish business Grove Farms. He also owns Goodfellas frozen pizza business and Fox’s biscuits.
A spokesman for 2 Sisters Food Group told Farmers Guardian the firm ’does not comment on rumours or speculation.’
A story in The Telegraph over the weekend said it was understood the process had been kicked off after the poultry company was approached by a European rival.
