YFC members raise money for The Louise Hartley Memorial Fund #yfcagm17 #yfcdoitbest

Members were asked to donate £1 for the special cause in exchange for a Farmers Guardian t-shirt.

Our six-strong team welcomed around 5,400 YFC members as they arrived at Torquay’s Riviera Centre, which is the focal venue for biggest event on the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs calendar.

True to form, members were in fine spirits as they arrived for Friday’s registration after some had travelled as far as Cumbria - and in one case New Zealand - to enjoy a weekend of competitions, debate, friendship and camaraderie.

A dairy farmer’s daughter, Louise worked for Farmers Guardian since 2013 and joined the publication after completing an agriculture degree at Newcastle University.

From Bashall Eaves, Clitheroe, Lancashire, she passed away last July after a short but incredibly brave battle with a rare form of ovarian cancer.

Organisations and individuals from within the farming community, along with external groups and individuals who knew her, began raising money to help fund pioneering treatment she received at The Christie Hospital in Manchester.

The donations continue and The Louise Hartley Memorial Fund was launched to mark the incredible generosity shown by those who knew and were inspired by her person.
