Alltech founder Dr Pearse Lyons dies aged 73

Founder and president of animal health company Alltech Dr Pearse Lyons has died aged 73.

The Irish entrepreneur – whose vision for improving global agriculture through applying yeast fermentation expertise to agricultural challenges – died yesterday (March 8) of an acute lung condition which developed during his recovery from heart surgery.

He lived by the motto ‘science does not have to be boring’.

Alric Blake, Alltech chief executive and treasurer, said Dr Lyons was a ‘visionary entrepreneur who transformed the agricultural industry’.

“From farm to field, from market to family dinner table, our world is immeasurably better because he was a man who never saw any problems, only a challenge that had not yet been solved,” he said.
