Better than expected trade as Herefords sell to 9,000gns

The Farmers Guardian sponsored Hereford Cattle Society show and sale on Tuesday exceeded all expectations with bulls selling to 9,000gns and heifers to 5,700gns.

An 80 per cent clearance of the bulls saw the male champion, 745kg 18-month-old Fisher 1 McCoy by Fisher 1 Jaguar, from W.J. Hutchings and Sons, Chichester, Sussex top the sale selling to the Highridge Farm Partnership, Oxted, Surrey.

Solpoll 1 Milkyway

J. and W. McMordie, Ballygowan, Co. Down sold 19-month-old 780kg Solpoll 1 Milkyway by Panmure 1 Henry for 8,400gns to P. Murphy, Wychnor, Staffordshire and another Henry son, 19-month-old 975kg Solpoll 1 Lawyer for 8,000gns to J.R. Pike and Son, Chippenham, Wiltshire.

 

The McMordies also sold two more 19-month-old bulls. Solpoll 1 Maverick by Solpoll 1 Dynamite for 6,000gns to Spendlove Brothers, Kettering, and Solpoll 1 Mr. Daffy by the Australian sire, Wirruna Daffy D1 for 5,400gns to H. Richardson, Redditch, Worcestershire.

 

C.S. Fletcher, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria saw her 24-month old Barwise 1 Lekhwair by Barwise 1 Wellington sell for 6,400gns to G.J. and E.M. Thomas, Ferwig, Cardiganshire.

 

M. Ludgate, Thame, Oxfordshire sold 30-month-old Rempstone 1 245N Comply-or-Die for 5,000gns to P. Cobley, Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire.

Females

Dendor 1 Molly 44

A 100 per cent clearance of the show heifers offered saw a top of 5,700gns for the female champion, 14-month-old Dendor 1 Molly 44 by the Danish bull, SMH Euro 30E from D.E., E.D. and A.L. Jones, Newtown, Powys. The buyer was P.D. Vaughan, Kingsland, Herefordshire, who also bought the reserve female champion, 20-month-old Romany 1 Ishbel H12 M4 by Romany 1 Heavyduty A84 H12 from J.R.B. Wilson and Sons, Kelso, for 5,300gns and two heifers by Panmure 1 Henry from Messrs McMordie - Solpoll 1 Starlet M1 for 3,600gns and Solpoll 1 Starlet M14 for 4,200gns.

 

Messrs. McMordie went on to sell three more heifers, Solpoll 1 Starlet M8 by Solpoll 1 Dynamite for 5,500gns to J. Radcliffe, Swansea; Solpoll 1 Starlet M6 by Danish sire Moeskaer Keno for 3,600gns to A.G. Whittle, Heywood, Lancashire and Solpoll 1 Starlet M9 by Panmure Henry for 3,300gns to E. Pierce, Tiverton.


G. and M.C. Shepherd, Preston, saw their 12-month-old Moorside 1 Jane 6 by Canadian sire CCR 57 G Stamina sell for 3,800gns to Highridge Farm Partnership, Oxted, Surrey.

 

Topping the females for sale only section at 2,700gns was a 13-month-old heifer from P.J. and A.C. Allman, Sutton St. Nicholas, Herefordshire. Greenyards 1 Echo M346, a daughter of the Australian sire, Wirruna Daffy D1 was knocked down to B. Head, Birmingham.
