Blondes lead Spring trade at Carlisle

THE overall champion Blonde bull headed the breed society sale at Carlisle, selling for 8,000gns.

May 2015-born Hallfield Lincoln from P. Weightman and Sons, Co Durham, was tapped out as junior champion before being awarded the supreme sash. By Hilltop Hector and out of Hallfield Dizzy, it was bought by Keith Eunson, Orkney.

The reserve junior champion came from the same vendor and was second top price at 5,800gns. A son of Blackwater Ainsley and Hallfield Rhona, Hallfield Lewis was born in May 2015 and is full brother to the 6,500gn Hallfield Destiny. It went home with J. and K. Metcalfe and Son, Richmond.

The July 2015-born heifer Shanvalley Latoya from Savage Bros and Son, Co Down, led the female trade at £3,800. By Abricot and out of Shanvalley Hoshi, it went to W. Hall, Wigtownshire, who also paid £3,600 for another heifer from the same herd. Shanvalley Lacey is by Shanvalley Gonso and is the first daughter of the multi-junior champion Shanvalley Holla to be offered for sale.

Averages: 7 bulls, £4,050; 3 females, £3,018.75.

Shorthorn bulls to 6,000gns

BEEF Shorthorn bids topped at 6,000gns, paid for the reserve male champion from Laga Farms, Orkney.

 

Lagas Joseph is a 22-month-old bull by the 5,500gns Chapelton Adonis and out of a Galla-bred dam. The buyer was Dundarave Properties, Antrim.

 

Next at 3,800gns was Balgay Juitter Bug, a 22-month-old Balgay Zetor son from Balgay Farm, Inchture, Perth. Its sold to D. Leeson, Malton.

 

A bid of 3,000gns secured Mountbenger Jackson from W. and W.J. Jardine, Dumfriesshire. The 22-month-old by Blinkbonny Equity took the overall male and supreme championship for David Baillie, Lanarkshire.

 

The female section was led by Knockenjig Margo, a six-year-old by Cavans Northern Light which sold for 3,200gns. Coming from David and Rosemary Dickie, Sanquhar, it sold in-calf to Glengoy Geronimo to J. Adamson, Turriff,

3,200gns top for Herefords

BEST of the small Hereford entry was a lot from C.S. Fletcher, Appleby-in-Westmorland. The May 2015-born bull Barwise 1 Mccoy M861 stood third in the pre-sale show, but came to the fore to top the trade at 3,200gns.

 

An ET son of NBG 69T The Wonderer 36R 3W, and out of Barwise 1 Graceful G2, it sold to J. and D. Whalley, Ulverston.

 

At 3,000gns was the reserve male champion, Moorside 1 GBHS Motown, born in March 2015 and sired by NJW 73S W18 Hometown 10Y. Out of Harvie Ms Firefly 65P, it was exhibited by G. and M.C. Shepherd, Preston. The buyer was R.J. Verdin, Herefordshire.

Whitebred Shorthorn bull hits 4,700gns

AN April 2015-born bull which had stood third in the pre-sale show was top of the Whitebred Shorthorns.

 

J.R.F. Pattinson and Son, Hexham, sold Hottbank Lancer for 4,700gns. By Blackburn Marshall and out of Hottbank Lucinda 4, it went to M., M.E., T.R., and K.M. Wallace, also from Hexham.

 

A 4,400gns bid was made by Messrs Pattinson for Blackburn Jethro, an April 2015-born bull from G. Jackson, Roxburghshire. A son of Barlaes Welcome and out of Blackburn Margaret, it was tapped out as supreme champion by judge Brian Kennedy, Langholm.

In the Galloway ring, the overall male champion topped the trade, in the form of Troloss Kansas from Troloss Farms, Biggar. The February 2015-born is by Troloss Impeccable and out of Troloss Delilah. It sold for 2,600gns to G.T.J. and A. Medland, Devon.

 

At the same money was S. Busby and Co, Dumfriesshire, with the April 2015-born bull Upthank Arthur (PICTURED). Out of Tina 4 of Upthank and sired by Rebus of Nether Cleugh, it went to Andrew Thrope, Rochdale, Lancashire.

 

Two female exhibits sold at 1,600gns, paid for the winning in-calf cow, June 2014-born Astrid 647 of Whitehill, from Walter Henderson, Lockerbie. A daughter of Mountbenger Colonel, it sold in-calf to Titan of Whitehill to K. Laurie, Brampton.

 

Also at 1,600gns was Robert McTurk with the reserve female champion Barlaes Brownie 232, born in April 2015 and by Barlaes JFK. It was knocked down to T. Davies and Sons, Powys.

 

Averages: 3 bulls, £2,327.50; 4 in-calf heifers, £1,365; 19 bulling heifers, £1,100.29; 3 cows, £728.
