The first lamb to sell at £30,000 was from Messrs Lord’s Hewgill flock, North Stainmore. By a home-bred sire out of Hewgill H113 which goes back to B41 Hewgill and M8 Hewgill, it sold to a consortium of Paul Brown, Kirkby Stepen, Gary Beacom, Fivemiletown, D. McCrystal, Drummuck, and Shaun Proctor, Kirkby Stephen.

Messrs Lord sold another lamb at £10,000, two at £9,000 and one at £8,000, all by L7 Riddings, to average £9,255 for nine rams.

The other lamb to make £30,000 was from Granville and Paul Fairburn’s Marriforth flock, Thornton Steward. By a Greenriggs ram, out of a gimmer by the £9,000 Carry House, it sold to Graham Pears, Sheffield, and the Wight family’s Midlock flock, Biggar.

The Wight’s then had the next two top prices of £26,000 and £25,000. Firstly, for a lamb by the £13,000 son of Carry House Jackpot, bought from the Riddings flock, which sold to the Marriforth flock.

The other, by the same sire out of a ewe by H1 Kirkby Redgate, sold in a three-way split to Graham and Julie Loughery, Seamus Laverty and Ian Mongomery, all from Northern Ireland. The Midlock pen averaged £8,788 for their nine ram lambs.

Ron and Fran Wilson of the Low Tipalt flock, Armathwaite, had their best sale to date of £17,000 with a lamb by J1 Carry House, which caught the eye of Michael James for his Duhonw flock, Builth Wells.

Also making a personal best were Will and Gillian Sedgley from the Langstroth flock, Carnforth, who sold a son of J46 Midlock for £16,000 with Richard Wood, Kingledores, James Herdman, Eldingham, and Allan Wight, Midlock, joining forces.

Paul and Raymond Ayrton, Over Wyresdale, sold N3 Hayshaw for £15,000 to Jack Lawson’s Hundith flock, Aspatria, and Richard Harker’s Grayrigg Hall flock, Kendal.

Close behind at £14,000 was a lamb by L33 Hewgill from George Shields’ Skeughdale flock, Ravenstonedale, which was knocked down to J. Allison and Sons’ Sealhouses flock, Richmond, and W.C. Porter’s Riddings flock, Richmond.

Averages – ram lambs, £2,206 (+£766 on 2019); aged rams, £1,248 (+£71); shearling rams, £829 (+£8); gimmer shearlings, £686 (+£272); gimmer lambs, £309 (-£107).
