Bullocks sell to £1,420 at Lancaster

Marts the Heart sale at Lancaster

The annual Farmers Guardian-sponsored show and sale of bullocks at Lancaster topped at £1,420.

 

From the catalogued entry of 442, judge Rob Moran, Hellifield, awarded the first place rosette to Stuart and Joan Cornthwaite, Caton, with a pen of four Limousins which he bought for £1,370.

 

The sale-topping pen at £1,420, however, was a pair of Limousin bullocks, also from the Cornthwaites. M. and L. Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale, had the second-prize pen of four, which made £1,220, while W. and T. Danson and Son, Pilling, took third prize and sold at £1,080.

 

Angus bullocks sold to a top of £1,310, from T. and M. Halhead, Carnforth, with Angus heifers selling to £1,170 from E.W. and C.R. Clegg and Sons, Poulton-le-Fylde. Friesian bullocks sold to £1,050 from Cowell and Moore, Woodplumpton.

 

In all, 22 head sold at more than £1,300, with a 100 per cent clearance achieved. Heifers sold to a top of £1,310, from D. and E. Whitaker, Quernmore, Lancaster.
