THE Fantastic Fifty sale, Newark, including Southdown females from Jonathan Long’s Chaileybrook flock, Herefordshire and the Brant flock of Sid Cook, Lincolnshire, saw a new female breed record set when a shearling flew to 2,500gns.
Record breaker came from the Chaileybrook pen, in the shape of a daughter of TC10187 Sarkozy out of a ewe by TC4028 The Frog. Reserve inter-breed at Tenbury show and In-lamb to Poillot 40036 Percheron, it sold to Tom Sinden, Brenzett Green, Kent.
Second best at 800gns was another Chaileybrook gimmer which is by the homebred Chaileybrook 13/0001 Tadpole and also out of a TC10187 Sarkozy daughter. In-lamb to Chaileybrook 17/00032, it caught the eye of Megan Chilcott, East Huntspill.
At the same money was a ‘pick of flush’ lot, offering the choice of a lamb from an ET flush from Chaileybrook 15/00010, which was reserve champion at the breed society’s 125th anniversary show. By Poillot 40036 Percheron, it sold to Nigel Barrington Fuller, Weeley Heath.
Best of the Brant flock were two gimmers at 450gns, the first by Wattisfield 11/00081 and the second by TC10187 Sarkozy.
