Champion tops Border Leicester in-lamb sale

TOPPING the sale of in-lamb Border Leicesters at Carlisle with a top call of 2,000gns was the overall champion, a ewe from David and Ian Walker, Ayrshire. By Lynham Lord Kelso and out of an Atok Atomic-bred dam, it was knocked down to Messrs McCrabbe, County Donegal.

Next at 1,000gns was the third prized shearling gimmer by Alticane Athlete consigned by Mary Laidlaw, Ayrshire. Out of a home-bred ewe by Clola Character it sold to Messrs Martyn, Launceston, Cornwall.

Following this at 900gns was another ewe from Messrs Walker, again by Lynham Lord Kelso but this time out of a ewe by Knockglass Cruiser. It was scanned in-lamb with twins to Meidrim Mighty and went home with F. and R. Farms, Kirkby Stephen.

Making 850gns and again selling to Messrs McCrabbe was the fourth prized shearling gimmer from S. and A. Watson, Crieff. The gimmer is by Eildon Rob Roy and out of a Didcot Drambuie-bred ewe.

At 800gns was another gimmer from the same home, again by Eildon Rob Roy and out of a Didcot Drambuie dam which was champion at the national show in 2016. This time it sold to Messrs Watson, Holmbrook, Cumbria.
