Claas extends operator assist system for tractors

Following the introduction of Claas’s operator assistance system, Cemos, on the Arion and Axion tractor series in 2020, the manufacturer has now added it to the Axion 900 Terra Trac half-track series. In addition, the firm has also extended the capabilities of the system to include disc mowers.

The assistance system initially focused on ballast and tyre pressure settings when cultivating with wheeled tractors, boasting increases in area output of up to 16.3 per cent and fuel savings of up to 16.8 per cent in tests carried out on an Axion 960 by the DLG in Germany.

In the case of the Axion Terra Trac models, the system helps the operator select the right pressures for the front tyres and the most suitable ballasting strategy. The latter is to avoid over ballasting, leading to unnecessarily high soil pressure, and at the same time to achieve optimal traction, preventing damaging slip.

Available on all Cemos-equipped tractors, the mower assistant is designed for all brands of mounted rear and front mowers. In practice, the driver enters the working width, crop, type of placement and pto speed. The system then helps the driver correctly align the mower bar, set the right cut height and ground pressure, adjust the lift height and select a suitable overlap.

The system also takes care of basic settings such as adjusting the lower and upper links and securing the rear lower links with the side stabilisers, as well as ensuring that the drive shaft is the correct length. This is an additional feature at no extra cost and can be retrofitted to tractors already fitted with Cemos by means of an update.
