Claas introduces new 155hp model to revamped Arion 400 tractor series

Due to be launched in the UK and Ireland this autumn, Claas has revealed its latest generation of Arion 400 tractors, coinciding with Stage 5 emission control upgrades.

Its most popular tractor series, selling almost 30,000 to date, the new Arion 400 range now consists of seven models, headed by the new Arion 470, which has a maximum power output of 155hp.

All models are equipped with 4.5-litre, four-cylinder FPT engines. Turbochargers from the Arion 430 upwards are also fitted with a wastegate, developing a 10hp boost when under pto and transport conditions, up from the previous 5hp boost. In addition, the engines also produce eight per cent more torque than before, with the largest model peaking at 630Nm.

The Stage 5 aftertreatment system cleans the exhaust gases using a combination selected catalytic reduction filter and a diesel oxidation catalytic converter. Diesel exhaust fluid (AdBlue) is also required.

As before, the specifications available include low cab or panoramic cab options, plus either the CIS or CIS+ control systems, although the company has hinted at the possibility of its top-spec Cebis control system being added in the future.

The 2,490mm wheelbase Arion 400 to 420 models get the firm’s 16 by 16 Quadrishift powershift transmission, while purchasers of the 2,530mm wheelbase Arion 430 and upwards can specify the 24 by 24 Hexashift semi-powershift as an option.

A brake to neutral function has also been added, allowing the transmission to be automatically disengaged when the brake is pressed, which is re-engaged when the brake pedal is released.

Gross vehicle weight has increased by 500kg to 9,000kg, enabling a 3,800kg payload, while the flagship model boasts a weight to power ratio of 34kg/hp.

The manufacturer says 50 per cent of its Arion 400s leave the Le Mann factory with a front loader fitted, so have integrated a 150 litre/minute hydraulic pump into the tractors, controlled by the multifunction control lever. It reckons the new pump halves the time taken to lift to full height.

Front axle suspension, mechanical two-point cab suspension are standard fitment, while there are various seating options.
