The champion pen of lambs in Clitheroe’s Christmas show and sale on Tuesday made £155 per head.
The four, three-quarter bred Beltex from I. and M. Lancaster, Wiswell, crossed the scales at 44kg before selling at 352p/kg to Tom Wood, for Huntley’s Country Store, Samlesbury, Preston.
For his reserve champion, Dunbia’s Andy Finch picked out Richard Lancaster’s 38kg Beltex which sold at 329p/kg (£125) to Steven Oldfield, Whalley, for his butcher shop.
The Suffolk lamb class was won by I. Holgate, Wigglesworth, while M. Whitwell, Worston, won the Mule class. R. and S. Spence topped the ‘hill-going’ class while M. and E. Hartley, Roughlee, won the horned class.
The SQQ on the day levelled at 155.41p/kg, with a 151.4p/kg overall average.
Ewes reached £93.50 for continentals from J. Lee, which were second in class to A.N. and A. Jelly, Heskin. Horned sheep sold to £43.50 from K.E. and A. Pilkington, who also won the Mule class.
