Topping the beef inter-breed line-up at Dumfries this year was Alister and Liz Vance, Newton Stewart, with their Commercial champion, Keltic Storm.
The 14-month-old Limousin cross is a Naby Jaguar son, and was bought from Barnard Castle in March from Messrs Dent.
Having stood reserve with different animals in the beef inter-breed at the show on two previous occasions, this marked a first-time overall championship win for the pair.
Heading to Wigton show next, Keltic Storm is set to be a regular on the winter circuit and will be shown at Agri-Expo, LiveScot and the Welsh Winter Fair in the coming months.
In reserve stood the Aberdeen-Angus champion, Carruthers Elspeth, from Donald and Kerry Graham, Lockerbie.
Shown in calf with its first to Housesteds Evio, the home-bred heifer is by Halbeath Kitemark, a bull bought from Martin McCormick, Newton Stewart, three years ago and out of Caruthers dam.
Due in February next year and having previously stood second in its class as well as being one part of the reserve team of four at this year’s Royal Highland, this was Elspeth’s final outing this season.
Supreme in the dairy section was the Holstein champion, Errolston Yadda Ricki, from Brian and Valerie Davidson, Gretna.
Although shown in previous years, the home-bred Co-Op Bosside Massey daughter topped at Dumfries on what was its first outing this season.
Classified EX92 and having calved in February with its fourth, the cow was shown giving 45 litres daily and resides with the families 200-head Errolston herd.
Next in reserve was Clifton Chavez Denise, the Jersey champion from T.A. and M.L Jackson, Holywood, Dumfries.
Bought privately from Steven and Claire Bland, Penrith, as a heifer, the second calver by Chilli Chavez CJCC was shown giving 35 litres having calved in April.
Having taken titles at several local shows, this marked the family’s first inter-breed win this summer.
Regular exhibitors, the MacTaggart family at Douganhill Farms, Palnackie, took the sheep supreme title with their Texel champion, Douganhill Beyonce.
By Teiglum Youngun, the home-bred ewe is a Douganhill Urrstar daughter which had stood second to its sister, the overall Texel champion at Stewartry earlier in the season.
Before stepping up in the inter-breed, Beyonce marked a fifteenth consecutive breed championship win for the family at Dumfries earlier in the day.
In what has been a strong year on the circuit this summer for the family, this marked their third inter-breed win after reigning supreme at the Royal Highland and Stewartry shows with two different home-bred ewes.
Standing reserve was a Scottish Blackface gimmer from W. Ramsey and Sons of the Milnmark flock, Castle Douglas.
Home-bred, it is by the £55,000 Easter Happrew, bought in a three way share between the Milnmark, Blackcraig and Hartside flocks from Lanark in 2017.
It stood reserve breed champion at the Royal Highland before taking the breed championship at Stewartry this season and will be shown locally in the coming weeks.
