A contractor moo-ved his dairy farmer girlfriend to tears by using a champion Jersey to propose to her at the Ashborne show.

Jo Stubbs, 32, said she had no idea her boyfriend, Alex Burrows, was going to pop the question.

"I just cried. I was in complete shock, I had no idea it was coming whatsoever," Miss Stubbs told the Ashbourne News Telegraph.

Agricultural contractor, Alex, 29, led his reserve champion Jersey, Absorbine, round the ring while the animal wore a red banner reading ’Will You Marry Me’.

Mr Burrows said he knew Ashbourne Show would be the right time to propose to his girlfriend whose family has a long history of involvement within the show.

He said: "I know how much Ashbourne Show means to Jo and her family. Farming is in their history and to do it at the show just seemed right.

"Ashbourne Show is the epitome of Jo. She loves farming and her cows mean everything to her, so I knew proposing at the show would be the be-all and end-all for her.

"This will always be in our memories because we will always be involved with Ashbourne Show."
