Prices peaked at 20,000gns for a ram lamb at the Solway and Tyne Texel Breeders’ Club’s main sale at Carlisle.
The sale leader was Usk Vale Corker, a son of Hexel Born to be Wild out of a dam by Cornmore Velvet Jacket from Willy Davis, Pontypool. It sold in a two-way split to Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, and Kedzlie Farms, Lauder.
Next, making 17,000gns, was Plasucha Carlsberg by Plasucha All Star out of a ewe by Mullan Awesome from Robert Bennet, Meifod, Powys. It was knocked down to Jeremy Theyer, Cheltenham and Clanfield Texels, Little Clanfield, Oxfordshire.
Two lambs sold for 15,000gns with the first being Brackenridge Crown Royal, a son of Kingspark Bentley from Andrew Neilson, Strathaven. The buyer was Myfyr Evans, Denbigh.
The other at this money was Procters Chumba Wamba, from Procters Farms, Wennington. By 100,000gns Sportsmans Batman out of a Teiglum Young Gun daughter, it is full-brother to the ewe lamb which was inter-breed champion at the Royal Welsh Show. It sold to the Clark family, Lesmahagow, and David and Sarah MacPherson, Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Shearling rams topped at 12,000gns for the first prize winner, Peacehay Blaze of Glory from F.H. Chave and Son, Somerset. By Clarks Wizard out of a dam by Scrogtonhead U Stoater, it sold to R. and M.F. Rottenbury and Son, Chipstable, Somerset.
There was a strong trade for females, peaking at 14,000gns for a shearling gimmer by the 130,000gns Sportsmans A Star out of a Clinterty Yuga Khan-sired ewe from the Blackwoods which sold to Boden and Davis, Stockport.
Its ET sister from the same vendors sold for 10,000gns to Robert Evans, Shrewsbury.
