CropTec Show: Where next for ramularia control?

With chlorothalonil re-approval still under threat, attentions are turning to future control of ramularia.

Speaking at the ADAMA-sponsored Crop Protection Hub at CropTec, Dr Neil Havis of SRUC said: “Chlorothalonil is the most effective but its future is unknown. We have to look at new and old chemistry and what it can give us in the short term. Two trials are planned looking at Folpet and Mancozeb.”

 

Longer term, Dr Havis said more information was needed on the life-cycle of ramularia to understand the development of epidemics; more information on host/pathogen interaction to drive chemical control; and a greater understanding of varietal resistance.
