An Irish dairy farmer has defended the industry and its practices in a two-hour long video debate with well-known vegan activist Earthling Ed.
The 17-year-old, who works on two different dairy farms, travelled to London for the debate after being frustrated by ’seeing these vegans attack our industry with false facts and information’.
"I wanted to stand up for my passion and what I believe in", he told Farmers Guardian.
"I said what I needed to say and hopefully got my point across.
"My message to vegans would be that we aren’t going to sit back and let you and spread false information about what we do.
"No-one should be forced to do anything. It’s all about choice."
Ryan discussed the ethics of the dairy industry and the environmental issues surrounding animal agriculture, as well as the standard practices he adheres to while working on dairy farms.
And after the debate, his message to farmers across the UK and Ireland is a simple one.
"My message to farmers would be to be as transparent as possible. Fight these vegans by showing people what goes on around our farms and why each process is done.
"Veganism is big on social media - which is where I think farming needs to improve."
