Datahub markets update: Falls across the auction marts

There were falls across the livestock rings at UK auction marts this week.

In the beef rings, steer prices saw the largest fall, down 6.29p/kg at 181.61p/kg. Heifer prices fell back 1.77p/kg to 196.06p/kg with young bulls down 2.51p/kg at 174.51p/kg.

Prices for old season lambs dropped back 4.38p/kg to 189.10p/kg with cull ewes down £1.63/head at £55.86/head.

Pig prices dropped 6.55p/kg to 91.23p/kg.

Arla and First Milk both confirmed a price hold for March.

Arla’s manufacturing price litre remained at 30.24ppl with the liquid price at 29.07ppl. The on-account price for organic milk will decrease by 0.90ppl to 43.55ppl.

First Milk’s price stands at 27.5ppl for the liquid standard litre. This equates to 28.43ppl on a manufacturing standard litre.

UK wheat futures fell sharply this week, weighed by even steeper declines in France. The price spread between UK and French wheat futures has narrowed sharply.

And world wheat markets have weakened with the US struggling to secure sufficient trade to help meet export targets.

Global oilseeds markets were focused on US/China trade talks.

The pound continues to follow political talks as Brexit day draws nearer. Against the Euro, sterling was up on the week, with £1 = €1.15.

It was also up against the dollar with £1 worth $1.30.
