Deadline looming for Welsh Sustainable Production grant

Welsh farmers have until September 30 to apply for the Government’s Sustainable Production grant
Farmers are being warned not to miss out on this funding opportunity
Farmers are being warned not to miss out on this funding opportunity

Farmers across Wales are being urged not to miss out on applying for the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Production Grant - with the September 30 deadline for submitting an expression of interest application form fast approaching.

“It is vital farmers do not miss out on this opportunity to access these funds which are designed to help farm investment,” says Farmers Union of Wales president, Glyn Roberts.

“We were extremely disappointed by the decision to transfer the maximum 15 per cent of Pillar 1 money into Pillar 2 and would therefore urge farmers to make sure they use every opportunity to claw some of this money back in a meaningful way.

“The purpose of the scheme is to provide investment in order to improve performance and sustainability of agricultural holdings.

“But we are concerned that many farmers remain unaware of the scheme and have not considered the impending deadline to submit an interest,” added Mr Roberts.

“There are five key investment themes that will be considered -- animal health and welfare, crop storage, production housing and handling, renewable energy production and soil and crop management.

“The minimum grant threshold per enterprise for any individual investment project is £16,000, with the maximum threshold set at £400,000.

“There is a two-stage application process whereby successful expression of interest applicants will then be invited to submit full applications.

“The window for full applications is expected to open on November 30, with May 31, 2016 being the deadline for submission.”
