THE major reduction sale of the Ellesmere Limousin herd on behalf of A.H.M. Lea and Son, Shropshire, took place at Welshpool, with a cow and calf outfit selling to a sale high of 4,500gns.

Ellesmere Limousin herd sells to 4,500gns @BritishLims #BeefGB #Limousins

THE major reduction sale of the Ellesmere Limousin herd on behalf of A.H.M. Lea and Son, Shropshire, took place at Welshpool, with a cow and calf outfit selling to a sale high of 4,500gns.

 

The leading lot was the 2013-born cow Ellesmere Ida, an Uskudar daughter out of Ellesmere Roxette. Ida sold at 2,800gns, in-calf to Ellesmere Hugo, while it’s February 2016-born bull calf, the Donzenac-sired Ellesmere Monty, sold for 1,700gns. Both were bought by R.W. and C.S. Richards, Hereford.

 

Another two cow and calf pairs sold to 3,750gns. The first was the Ellesmere Byron-sired 2011-born cow Ellesmere Givale, which sold for 2,700gns in-calf to Hugo to C.P Goulding, Penley. It’s April 2016-born heifer calf, Ellesmere Margo, a daughter of Hugo, sold at 1,050gns to J.J. Price and Co, Powys.

 

Selling at the same combined money, was Ellesmere Habrina, a 2012-born cow by Uskudar, which sold in-calf to Hugo for 2,150gns to R.A. Jones, Powys, and Its April 2016-born heifer calf. By Cowin Fendigeidfran, it went home with K. and H. Griffiths, Caernarfon, for 1,600gns.

 

Top priced heifer was the 2015-born Ellesmere Lenny, a daughter of the French sire Chaumeil. It sold for 3,000gns to an undisclosed buyer. Red House Farm, Powys, were the buyers of several heifers, including the April 2014-born Ellesmere Jally. A Donzenac daughter, it sold in-calf to Hugo, for 2,750gns.

 

The May 2015-born Hugo-sired Ellesmere Lost was the highest priced bull, selling at 3,200gns. It was knocked down to Powell Peters, Hereford.

Averages

39 cows and heifers served and / or suckling, £2,492.81; 15 served heifers, £2,117.50; 14 maiden heifers, £1,168.50; 3 young bulls, £2,537.50.
