The best of farming, food and rural life will be on display at the Great Yorkshire Show, when more than 130,000 visitors are expected to descend on Harrogate from Tuesday, July 9, to Thursday, July 11.
The Duke of York will visit the show on the Thursday, meeting officials, competitors and exhibitors.
Show director Charles Mills says: “We are honoured to welcome the Duke of York to the Great Yorkshire Show, where we will take a tour of some of the highlights.
“We have some of the best animals in Britain competing, first-class entertainment, state-of-the-art farming equipment and demos in the forge and cookery theatres.”
As always, livestock is at the heart of the show, with more than 8,500 animals competing.
Sheep numbers continue to rise year-on-year, with another record entry of 2,587 this time. The show will also be hosting the prestigious Pig of the Year competition as well as three national cattle shows for Longhorns, Beef Shorthorns and Charolais.
Chief cattle steward, Margaret Chapman says: “We are proud to host three national shows this year.
“It is the first time The Longhorn Society has held its national show at the Great Yorkshire Show. The Longhorn is one of England’s oldest native breeds, founded in 1878.
“The show is a shop window for some of the finest cattle in the country and this year we will have 19 pedigree breeds, plus commercial cattle.”
The cattle parade in the main ring is always a major highlight of the show and takes place on Wednesday and Thursday at 2pm.
The parade on Wednesday includes the final judging of the Blythewood Pairs.
