A farmer has died after falling into a quarry on his farm in Trawden, Lancashire.

Police were called to the remote farm on Keighley Road at 5:45pm following reports of a death outdoors.

The 79-year-old has been named locally as Peter Sedgwick.

It is believed Mr Sedgwick fell into a quarry while tending to his chickens on the farm.

A spokesperson from Lancashire Constabulary said: "Emergency services attended and found the body of a 79-year-old man at the foot of a small quarry who was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the Coroner."
