Farmer who was trapped under baler for several hours dies

A farmer who was rescued from a baler after being trapped underneath for six hours has died.

Norman Smith, from Brook House Farm, near Church Stretton in Shropshire, suffered serious injuries when his legs became trapped in the machine on Saturday.

 

Neighbours raised the alarm when they heard Mr Smith’s cries for help.

 

Mr Smith, who was in his 60s, was cut free from the machine by firefighters.

 

He suffered a cardiac arrest at the scene but paramedics managed to revive him before he was taken to hospital, where he later died.

 

The Health and Safety Executive said it was investigating the incident alongside West Mercia police.
