New First Milk chief executive Mike Gallacher has announced three major changes to the co-operative’s senior management as part of its ongoing restructuring.
The leadership changes come following the exit of former chief executive Kate Allum last month. Since taking the reins, Mrs Allum’s replacement, Mr Gallacher, has been tasked with reversing the group’s fortunes.
The NFU has called on Mr Gallacher to reverse the fortunes of farmers by aiming to improve First Milk’s farm gate price as quickly as possible.
Mr Gallacher said: “These new appointments strengthen the First Milk leadership team as we move rapidly to improve the First Milk business performance."
Kenny Bain, formerly of Ryvita, part of Associated British Foods, will enter the co-operative as operations director with the objective of improving returns to farmer members through efficiency and quality.
Paul Miley will take up the role of interim managing director of First Milk’s sports nutrition business, completing a strategic review of the company and examining options for business development.
He has worked in operations, marketing and finance roles for Mars, Michelin and ICI
Maureen Ross will become group human resources director. She has worked in roles for FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 companies. All of the changes will take effect immediately.
Mr Gallacher added: "Kenny, Maureen and Paul bring high levels of leadership, drive and commercial experience to First Milk and will play key roles in delivering our turnaround plan for the business.”
