Foxhill flock tops Charollais at 16,000gns

THE live sale of pedigree Charollais rams at Worcester saw a top price of 16,000gns for Foxhill Va Va Voom, a ram lamb from Mike and Melanie Alford, Devon.

The sale leader’s dam is a Crogham Hannibal II daughter, which had been inter-breed champion at Devon County Show, and its sire is Loanhead Triathlon, a Rhaedr Orlando son.

 

The successful bidders were the Ingram family, Aberdeenshire, for their Logie Durno and Loanhead flocks.

 

The Foxhill flock also achieved 2,500 gns for the next best in their pen, Foxhill Victor, also by Triathlon which went to Jeremy Price, Hereford, and Esmor Evans, Mold.

Leading the shearling trade was Thackwood U Corker, a ram from Jonathan Wales, Carlisle. The January-born son of Netherton Sea the Stars was knocked down for 4,600gns to Mr Alford.


Leading the Ingrams trade at 3,600gns was Loanhead Unstoppable, a shearling by Cannahars Super Star, which sold to Mr Wales.

 

Also going to Cumbria was Logie Durno Ultra, a son of Hollylodge Supreme, which sold for 2,500gns to David and Johnathan Norman for their Kirkhouse flock.

 

Another son of Supreme, Logie Durno Upperclass, sold for 2,300gns to Simon Turkington, Melrose.

Two ram lambs sold for 3,200gns. First was Wernfawr Vinnie from David Curran, Brecon. By Bronwydd Tomahawk out of a Glyn Coch Night to Remember sired ewe, it sold to Colin Bowen’s Gwyndy flock, Pembrokeshire.

 

Artnagullion Vagabond made the same money for William McAllister, Northern Ireland. By Loanhead Upper Class out of a Knockin Shop ewe, it was knocked down to Tim Prichard for his Castellau flock, Glamorgan.

 

Hundalee Volcano, a ram lamb by Edstaston U R The Man, with very high figures for all traits putting it in the top 1 per cent for the breed from Robert Whittaker, Jedburgh, sold for 2,500gns. The buyers were the Redhill flock, Rutland, Rainbow flock, Cheshire and the Lowerye flock, Powys.

 

Emyr Hughes, Pembrokeshire, consigned a pen of lambs all by Ffrwd U Belter. Topping his trade at 2,000 gns was Bronwydd Vinnie Jones which sold to Geoff Biddulph from the Gawsworth flock, Cheshire.

 

Close behind at 1,900 gns was Bronwydd Va Va Voom which sold to Chris Timm’s Wensleydale flock, North Yorkshire. His third lamb went to German buyer, Volker Derbisz for 1,600 gns.

 

The pen of lambs from Justin Evans, Glamorganshire, sold to 2,000gns for Sant Andras Vanquish, a Bronwydd Tomahawk sired lamb which sold to Geraint Evans, Newcastle Emlyn.

 

New Charollais flock owner, Richard White, Yorkshire, bought Sant Andras Vantage for 1,600 gns.

 

Society Chairman, Arwyn Thomas, Carmarthenshire sold his son of Arbryn Tonto for 1,900gns to Gail Hodgson and George Wearmouth for their Shield Ash flock, County Durham.

 

At the same price was Ffrwd Vunipola from Dewi Evans, Anglesey. The buyer for this son of Edstaston Sotogrande was D. A. Thomas, Dafolog flock, Carmarthenshire.

 

Averages - 11 Shearling rams, £1,911.95 (+£567 on 2019;71 ram lambs, £1,278.48(-£73.68).
