Free range turkeys use xylophones to show their ‘musical talent’

The poultry business supplies Aldi’s Specially Selected Oat-Fed Free Range Roly Poly Turkeys and Bronze Turkey Crowns, with the retailer expecting another bumper year Christmas with ‘phenomenal growth’ in volumes since they started supplying the supermarket in 2012.

The farm has created mobile ‘turkey villages’ for the birds.

The turkeys were free to roam and explore the farmland, able to eat and drink when they choose.

They can take shelter in spacious, light and airy turkey sheds, where they have perches and pecking objects to play with.

Music

This year has seen the addition of a hanging xylophone where they can ‘express their musical talents’.

The company has also installed eco-friendly biomass boilers on some of the farms to heat the buildings young turkeys start their lives in.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “These really are exceptional turkeys – they play music, are free to explore, and love spending time with the farmers.

“Our commitment to the highest possible welfare standards as part of our Specially Selected range has helped us to grow, and we are pleased to see caring producers like Traditional Norfolk Poultry thriving with us.”

Julie Eccleston at Traditional Norfolk Poultry said they were ‘proud and honoured’ to supply Aldi and had worked collaboratively with the retailer to deliver ‘outstanding free range poultry’.

“We look forward to our continued partnership for many Christmases to come.”
