Galloways top 5,800gns at Castle Douglas

CASTLE Douglas hosted its annual show and sale of Belted Galloway and White Galloway cattle. The event attracted a ringside of breed enthusiasts, as the pre-sale championship was awarded to the bull Lomond Bunnahabhain, which later topped the prices at 5,800gns.

A son of the 10,500gns Speddoch Rocky, this 21-month-old was bred and exhibited by D. Maxwell, Blairvockie, and sold to Carolyn Fletcher of the Barwise Herd, Appleby-In-Westmorland.

 

Reserve champion bull was the Cairnsmore Domino-sired Hockenhull Horatio from Hockenhull Farms, Tarvin. It was knocked down for 3,800gns to Hoscote Estate, Hawick.

 

At 4,500gns was the Tobergill Minstrel son Glen Fabio, from I.R.S. Bond, Castle Douglas, which went to D.A. and F.B. Daley, Grange-over-Sands.

 

Champion Belted Galloway female was Tim Oliver, Hexham, who took the honours with the heifer Offthewall Cassandra 2. By Lullenden Hector, it sold to Glenapp Farms, Ballantrae, for 3,700gns.

 

Joint top female also at 3,700gns was the heifer Barwise Maggie 845, from Ms Fletcher, Barwise, which sold in-calf to Castlemartin Den to Messrs Rix, Wissington.

White Galloway bulls hit 2,800gns for Barlaes Snowman from R. McTurk, Barlaes, which sold to Mr Oliver.

 

Top white female was the in-calf heifer Melkridge Risa 2 from Mr Oliver, which realised 2,400gns to Paul Thomson, Wolsingham.

Champion Belted Galloway Offthewall Cassandra 2 sold for 3,700gns.
