Garngour flock reign at Solway and Tyne Texel fixture

At the Solway and Tyne Texel Breeders Club sale, Carlisle, a ram lamb led the trade at 40,000gns, while a shearling gimmer achieved a new female club record when it sold for 9,500gns.

Sale topper was the February-born ram lamb Garngour Alabama, which had stood second in its class in the pre-sale show for breeders J. and H. Clark, Lanark. By Knock Yardsman and out of a ewe by Mossvale Winston, its granddam was supreme inter-breed at Biggar show last term.

 

It was sold in a six-way share between Messrs Boden and Davies, Mellor; B. Vernon, Uttoxeter; K. Pratt, Peterculter; Ben Baggott Farms, Little Haywood; R. Evans, Minsterley, and Sherratt Farm Supplies, Shrewsbury.

 

At 32,000gns was the ram lamb Mullan Amigo, a February-born by Mullan Wild Bill from Brian Hanthorn, Co Amagh. Out of a ewe by Eglur Viscount, it sold in a three-way share to S. Renwick, Peebles; Karen Wight, Biggar, and R. Cockburn, Errol.

 

K. Pratt made a bid of 20,000gns for a Castlecairn ram lamb from Bruce Renwick, Kelso. By Strathbogie Your Tupped and March-born, it is out of a home-bred Castlecairn Presentation daughter.

 

Next, was the winning ram lamb from James Ruggeri, Welshpool, which sold for 15,000gns to a consortium of buyers which included P.K. and R. Woof, Kendal; G. and M. Wilson, Appleby-In-Westmorland, and R.E.J. Pierce, Pulford. By Eden Valley Wiz Kid, it is out of a ewe by Clinterty Ultra.

 

Leading the shearling lamb prices at 6,500gns was class winner Strathbogie Yamaha, which also took reserve overall champion for exhibitors James Innes and Sons, Huntly. March-born and out of a ewe by Milnbank Sound Investment, it is a son of Aman Vyrnwy and sold to J.E. and S.J.L. James, Builth Wells.

 

Female trade was strong, topping at 9,500gns for a shearling gimmer from the Baltier flock from R. and E. Forsyth, Dumfries and Galloway. Born in February, the club record-setting gimmer is by Garngour Upper Class and out of a Knock Powerpacker daughter. The buyer was Messrs Alford, Devon.
