Farmers in Wales have been reminded that the Expression of Interest (EOI) window for Glastir Advanced 2019 will close at midnight on October 20.
The Welsh Government scheme offers cash to farmers who carry out environmental improvements on their land, but the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) has urged anyone considering applying to take the time to fully understand the agreement they sign up to.
In March, a number of farmers incurred penalties of more than 25 per cent after failing to notify completion of an item of capital work.
Farming unions criticised the Government at the time, calling on Ministers to find ways of ensuring people were not unfairly penalised because of rules hidden in complex small print.
FUW policy officer Charlotte Priddy said: “It is important farmers fully understand the obligations within their Glastir contracts, as even a minor breach can result in hefty penalties and repayments.
“It is advisable to regularly review the contract to ensure all the requirements are met.”
