Farmer dies after incident in Co Fermanagh #farmsafety

Gerard ’Gerry’ Donohoe, 48, died after an accident involving a tractor and trailer.

He passed away in hospital on Friday (July 7) as a result of his injuries.

A Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI) spokesman said: “Our thoughts and sympathy are with the family at this most difficult time.”

Mr Donohoe, a former employee of Quinn’s Tile plant, where he worked for many years, was living at his parents’ farm in the small village of Teemore.

More than 400 mourners attended the funeral at St Mary’s Church, Teemore yesterday (July 9).

Parish priest Ultan McGoohan, who led the funeral service, said Mr Donohoe’s family have been left "traumatised" by the accident.

"He was a great man for working with tractors. He always enjoyed working with them and was a great help to his neighbours who needed a hand," he said.

"He was a good man with machines and any type of work, he was able for it.

"The Donohoe family now need help to carry the burden and to move on as they are traumatised at the moment."

The death as the latest HSE figures confirmed farmer incident death toll was the worst in the UK.

Of the 137 work-related deaths in the 2016/17 period, 27 were on farms.
