Scottish crofter, 76, dies after incident with bull #farmsafety

The 76-year-old retired milkman, named locally as Alistair Maclean, died at the scene on his farm in the Borgie Skerray area of Bettyhill, Farr last Monday (May 1).

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

“A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal as is standard and the man’s next of kin have been made aware.”

The local community are said to be shocked after what they called a ‘horrific’ incident.

Strathy and Armadale Community Council chairman Janette Mackay added: “I was very, very sad to hear about Alistair’s death. He was a very pleasant gentleman and was very well liked.

“We initially heard that he was found dead at the peat stack and it was a heart attack but now we are hearing that there was a bull involved.

“We are thinking about his family at this time.”
