Offering higher power and its latest SmartTouch armrest, Valtra has been busy with its largest N, T and S Series tractor ranges. Richard Bradley reports.
At Valtra's event, the firm launched its updated A Series, along with higher power and new features for its larger tractor ranges.
Along with its latest A Series range of tractors, Valtra has added new and higher powered models to its N, T and S Series lineup. Another updated for the higher spec models includes the Finish firm's new SmartTouch controller.
Previewed at Sima 2017, the Finish firm launched its new armrest controller.
Replacing the existing console on S Series and Versu and Direct specification N and T Series, the console features an ergonomically designed multifunction joystick and nine-inch touch screen terminal.
For both Direct CVT and Versu power shift models, drive is possible solely in pedal or stick mode, or separate control of transmission and engine speed is also possible.
Moving the joystick forwards/backwards will increase/decrease speed respectively, with a detent in either direction to faster achieve maximum speed or standstill – both Direct and Versu models now offer engine braking for this function. The joystick also looks after cruise speed activation, engaged by tipping the stick right, and is disengaged by tipping left.
Controls on the joystick include consent switch for shuttling forward/reverse, range change buttons, two spool controls, linkage raise and lower, two memory functions and scroll wheel to adjust cruise speed. A hydraulic joystick with top auxiliary spool is also available as an option, and all spool controls are proportional and can be set to control any of the tractor’s spools, front loader or front and rear linkages.
All other controls, including ones for lighting and radio, are neatly grouped in two banks of soft-keys on the armrest, either side of four spool switches.
Nine-inch touch screen is intuitive to use, with a simple home screen to find tractor settings pages.
Along with its latest compact range, the Finish firm also added higher powered and boosted models to its larger N, T and S Series line up. All of these models will be available from August 2017.
Described as a double-boost function by the Finnish firm, N174 models now have up to 201hp available for transport and pto operations.
Similarly, the firm has launched a Direct continuously variable transmission (CVT) version of its T234 model, taking its highest powered CVT to a double-boosted 250hp. An additional T254 model is also available in HiTech, Active and Versu power shift specifications, which has up to 271hp available.
The firm’s S394 model, previewed at SIMA 2017, also got its official launch. While the model only increases the range’s maximum power by 5hp, Valtra says it offers a constant 400hp from the off, so is ideally suited to draft applications.
